U.S. Capitol Attack: The local cases and where they stand in court

Ohio has 36 people facing criminal charges for their accused roles in the attack on the Capitol a year ago.

The state ranks sixth in the nation for most cases related to the Jan. 6, 2021 events.

Overall, there are over 700 cases being prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Over a dozen of those cases involve people in the Miami Valley.

THE OATH KEEPERS:

Jessica Watkins, Donovan Crowl, Bennie Parker and Sandra Parker

Jessica Watkins and Donovan Crowl were arrested by the FBI in January 2021 after federal agents raided their apartment complex above a bar in the village of Woodstock. Both face multiple charges, including conspiracy, obstructing an official proceeding, destruction of government property, and unlawful entry on restricted building or grounds.

“Evidence uncovered in the course of the investigation demonstrates that not only did Caldwell, Crowl, Watkins, and others conspire to forcibly storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021—they communicated with one another in advance of the incursion and planned their attack,” the FBI said in an affidavit.

Watkins remains in custody and Crowl was released on his own recognizance.

Watkins and Crowl are said to affiliated with or members of the Ohio State Regular Militia, which is a local militia organization that is a subset of the Oath Keepers, the FBI reported.

About a month later, in February 2021, Bennie and Sandra Parker from Warren County were indicted for their alleged roles in the attack.

According to court records, Bennie Parker had numerous text message exchanges with Watkins leading up to Jan. 6.
