Valley View 4th Grade students transition to remote learning for 3 days

GERMANTOWN — Officials at Valley View Local Schools announced Tuesday afternoon that fourth grade students only will be forced to stay home and begin remote learning.

The remote learning will take place Thursday, Friday and Monday (Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 4).

Supt. Ben Richards issued a statement saying, “We have been closely monitoring all of our numbers since the beginning of the school year. While our overall attendance rate is slightly below normal levels, we have been pretty steady throughout the month.”

Richards said the district has seen a rapid increase of students who are absent in the fourth grade. He continued by saying that the district has seen roughly 30 percent of the fourth-grade student population absent.

According to Richards, there have been seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 with a large number of students out due to contact tracing. He also indicated that there are other illnesses going around.

Valley View Schools said most of the students will be allowed to return to class on Tuesday, which is why remote learning will also take place on Monday.
