Valley View Schools selling 100-year-old school buildings

GERMANTOWN — Valley View Local Schools is selling two historic school buildings to save them from demolition as they prepare to build a new K-12 building.

The buildings were originally built as high schools for Farmersville and Germantown school districts but are now used as Valley View’s Junior High, 202 Jackson Street, and Intermediate School, 64 Comstock Street.

The buildings have been under continuous use since the 1920s, Valley View Schools said in a press release.

“If we can sell these buildings, even for a dollar, we can save significant costs in demolition,” said Valley View Superintendent Ben Richards.

“There is a desire in the community to see these buildings remain, but they are not suitable to support our educational needs. We would love to see them take on new lives in each community.”

Each building has a gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium with a stage, and classroom space. Both buildings have been updated for handicap accessible entrances, but do not feature elevators, Valley View said.

Valley View’s new K-12 building is scheduled to open in 2024.

Anyone interested in purchasing either of the buildings should contact the Valley View Superintendent’s office at 937-855-6581.
