DARKE COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon caused a farm fertilizer tank to overturn and release 800 gallons of liquid nitrogen.
The Darke County Emergency Management Agency was called to the crash reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 705 and Riegle Bell Road, according to the county sheriff’s office.

The driver of a 2017 Ford Focus, 65-year-old Rita Barga of Rossburg, was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. Deputies said she was traveling north on Riegel Bell Road when she entered the intersection and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 54-year-old Randy Winner of Yorkshire, who was headed west on state Route 705.
Winner was towing a farm fertilizer tank, which detached, rolled over and released the liquid nitrogen during the crash.
Barga and Winner, the lone occupants of their vehicles, were not injured.
