Missing man pulled from Great Miami River identified

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 1:10 p.m. (Jan. 13):

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the man who was pulled from the Great Miami River on Monday.

He is identified as Cory L. Christon, 44, of Osceola Drive in Dayton.

The coroner said the cause and manner of death have not been determined.

FIRST REPORT (Jan. 11):

A man reported missing out of Trotwood was found dead in a vehicle pulled from the Great Miami River this afternoon, according to MetroParks Police Chief Mark Hess.

The car was found in the river off Edwin C. Moses Blvd. and West Third Street this afternoon, several days after the man had been reported missing.

Hess said the department had been out along the river on New Year’s Day after someone walking their dog found a license plate. There was no indication the vehicle had been in the water at the time, he said.

The man was reported missing out of Trotwood the weekend after New Year’s Day and crews went out again that weekend, since the license plate came back to him, but still found no evidence of the vehicle being in the water.

Trotwood police were following up on the missing person’s case, when they were able to spot the car in the river today, since the water had gone down in the area.

Hess said no foul play is suspected.
