The outage initially affected 877 customers after a vehicle struck a pole in the 7000 block of Jay Road in Union Twp. around 3:30 a.m.
Director of Communications for DP&L Mary Ann Kabel confirmed the outage was caused when a vehicle hit a pole. There were no other similar accidents in the area during that time, said Sgt. Chris Bobb of the Miami County Sheriff’s Department.
A male, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Trail Blazer, fled the scene on foot after crashing into a telephone pole, said Bobb.
The pole was taken down, causing down wires, said Bobb. A transformer was also damaged.
A passenger, who remained at the scene, suffered minor injuries and refused to be transported to a hospital, Bobb said.
The cause of the accident was not known.
It’s not clear why the driver of the vehicle fled.
Since the outage, only 30 customers are still without service but Kabel said she expects them to be restored shortly.
