A veterinary forensics expert is offering to train Ohio law enforcement and shelter officials this week so they’re better equipped to handle animal cruelty cases.
Forensics Veterinarian Dr. Melinda Merck will offer a free training course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday to cruelty investigators, law enforcement officials, animal control officers and humane officers.
The class offers lunch and a full-day of training that includes:
- The link between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence
- Crime scene analysis
- Forensic botany
- Burial detection, body and skeletal remains analysis
- Large-scale cruelty challenges
