DAYTON — Crime numbers across the city of Dayton decreased in 2020, but there was a rise in three violent crime categories.
Dayton’s homicide rate increased last year. The city recorded 47 homicides in 2020. Dayton Police Chief, Richard Biehl said the rise continued a negative trend.

“This, this past year was the worst year. ‘19 was the second worst,” Biehl said. “So not a good trend.”
The number of aggravated assaults rose 25 percent last year. Dangerous gunfire, like shooting into homes, increased dramatically by 52 percent.
Dayton police are looking into what could have made those numbers rise, since they did not see increases tied to the first three months of COVID-19 restrictions or any of the social justice protests.
