MIAMI VALLEY — When you head to the polls Tuesday, you’ll need to have photo identification.
This is different from previous elections where people could use a utility bill to show proof of address.
Russ Joseph, deputy director for the Montgomery County Board of Elections, said the day before an election is always busy, on top of that this year they have been trying to get the word out about the identification requirements.
“About 98 percent of our folks in the past who have voted do show their ID when they go to vote at the polls, but there is a small category of folks who may be impacted so we certainly want to get the word out as much as we can,” Joseph said.

Under this new law, voters have to show a photo ID when they cast their ballots.
Your ID must have an expiration date that hasn’t passed.
Gov. Mike DeWine signed this into law earlier this year.
You can use an Ohio driver’s license, a United States passport or United States Military ID card.
In the past voters were able to use other forms of identification at the polls like utility bills or bank statements, but that is no longer the case.
Joseph said if you don’t have an acceptable form of ID you’ll have to cast a provisional ballot.
