Waffle House shooting: Argument over staffing levels happened prior to gunfire, witness says

BEAVERCREEK — An argument over a restaurant having enough staff was reported prior to gunfire that shattered several windows at Waffle House and left a man bleeding from shattered glass, according to 911 calls obtained by News Center 7.

Police and medics responded to the Waffle House at the corner of Colonel Glenn Highway and National Road around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

“I don’t know who shot, but there was an altercation, because they were kicking people out, because they were overwhelmed, because they only have two waitresses,” a 911 caller said. “They asked everybody to leave because they were getting overwhelmed.”

Beavercreek officers said as many as 15 shots were fired at the business, leaving multiple windows shattered and broken grass scattered throughout the restaurant.

News Center 7 has reached out to Waffle House for comment and are awaiting their response.

Multiple 911 callers described the chaos as officers responded.

“I’m on the ground underneath a booth,” one caller told emergency dispatchers just after seeing the shooting happen. “Someone said it was a black SUV.”

Another caller said the black SUV went east toward North Fairfield Road after firing the shots.

“There was a shooting at the Waffle House right here.  I was working,” the caller said. “There’s broken glass everywhere.”

A man was reported to have been bleeding from his hands due to the broken glass, according to the 911 calls.

Witnesses said people ran to the back of the restaurant and some stayed in the lobby after the shooting happened.

A Beavercreek police report showed that police have not been able to identify any suspects in the case.

Beavercreek police said it did not have any surveillance video available to release of the incident.
