WATCH: ODOT camera captures tornado travel through Auglaize Co. highway

AUGLAIZE COUNTY — An Ohio Department of Transportation traffic camera captured the moment a tornado traveled through an Auglaize County highway.

The traffic camera was located at I-75 at US-33 and showed footage just before 1 a.m. early Saturday.

Cars can be seen traveling on the highway slowly as winds push a wall of heavy rain across the roadway.

A large flash of lightning lights up the highway, as the traffic camera shakes from the winds before it is forced downward.

An EF1 tornado touched down at 12:54 a.m. southwest of where the camera was located, before traveling to I-75 at US-33 where it was its strongest, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds were estimated to be up to 110 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

A truck stop experienced significant damage and a few semi-trailers were blown over and then northeast of there, a private campground suffered damage as numerous trailers were flipped over and a large meeting hall had its roof removed.

Several trees were also knocked down and several people were also hurt when the trailers flipped at the campground.

The tornado continued going northeast as several farmhouses and outbuildings were damaged or destroyed between Wapakoneta and Uniopolis, particularly along Middle Pike, according to NWS.

The tornado traveled a little over 17 miles and ended around 1:07 a.m.
