SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 7:40 p.m.:
At least three people who were reported as being in distress were rescued from the Mad River during a water rescue incident Monday afternoon, according to initial reports.

Crews were called to the area of Eagle City Road west of U.S. 68 just before 4 p.m. Monday on reports of three people in distress and in need of rescue.
At least three people were swept up by the river’s current and were found holding onto a log in the middle of the river, emergency scanner traffic indicates.

Rescue crews using multiple boats were able to get the victims out of the water around 5:30 p.m. It was not known if any of the victims reported any injuries.
News Center 7 has reached out to the Springfield Fire Division for more details and we are awaiting a response.

An active water rescue is underway on the Mad River for three people who were reported in distress in the river, according to initial reports.

Crews were called to the area of Eagle City Road west of U.S. 68 just before 4 p.m. Monday on reports of three people in distress and in need of rescue.
The three people were swept up by the river’s current and were found holding onto a log in the middle of the river, emergency scanner traffic indicates.
Rescue crews have deployed boats in the river and at least one drone is also being used to assist rescue crews, initial reports indicate.
There have not been any initial reports of injuries.
