“My kids were washing the dishes,” Yesina Betsy said. “They didn’t get a chance to rinse.”
Betsy has lived at the Sunset Hills Apartments for years, and has noticed problems with the plumbing in the past.
But Friday morning, she was shocked.
“I [was] talking to the maintenance man Bill and I’m like, ‘what’s going on?’ He’s like, ‘well, the water, we had to shut it off as an emergency,’” Betsy said.
Sunset Hills Apartment Manager Shellette Golden said she called someone to come out and fix it, but it is a bigger problem than she can fix.
“The water main line has broken,” Golden said.
The courtyard of the apartment complex had a pool of water in it that later froze.
April Shinn, another resident, said they were given water until the building’s water is turned back on.
“They gave me one gallon of water, and that didn’t even flush my toilet,” Shinn said. “With it being government owned housing, you’d think that there would be a lot more things done in advance to avoid problems like this.”
Shinn said she wishes they were given an advance notice of the issue.
“I apologize to my residents. I know they are going through something,” Golden said.
Golden said she is planning to follow up with the city’s utilities department Monday.
