Wendy’s has announced they will be removing the lettuce from their sandwiches in multiple states after people reported getting sick after eating them.

Friday the Center for Disease Control reported that at least 37 people have been infected with a strain of E. Coli, 19 of those cases are in Ohio.

Of the 26 infected people interviewed by the CDC, more than 80 percent said they ate at a Wendy’s the week before they started feeling sick.

Most sick people reported eating sandwiches with romaine lettuce at Wendy’s before getting sick.

The Wendy’s restaurants where these people ate are in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The restaurant issued a response to this claim on their blog.

“We are fully cooperating with public health authorities on their ongoing investigation of the regional E. coli outbreak reported in certain midwestern states. While the CDC has not yet confirmed a specific food as the source of that outbreak, we are taking the precaution of removing the sandwich lettuce from restaurants in that region. The lettuce that we use in our salads is different, and is not affected by this action. As a company, we are committed to upholding our high standards of food safety and quality,” the company wrote.

The CDC did not release information about which specific restaurant locations those interviewed ate at.
