‘We’re in dire straits;’ Area blood center in urgent need of blood after holiday

DAYTON — Summer holidays are putting local blood banks further behind in their already short supply of blood.

Mark Pompilio, public relations marketing manager at Community Blood Center, said they need about 300 donors per day to meet the hospital’s demand of blood donations.

Pompilio said they were close to goal leading up to the holiday but donations eventually dropped off.

He said there is especially an urgent need of Type O blood.

“Please carve out some time to donate, because we’re not through the summer at all. We’ve got past one of the major holidays this summer and we’re in a tough situation from it. It’s just a domino effect going right into the rest of July,” Pompilio said.
