West Carrollton police investigate possible pee wee football theft

West Carrollton police are investigating a possible theft of funds from the West Carrollton Wee Pirates Football program.

"We have an active investigation taking place," said West Carrollton police Deputy Chief David Wessling.

The agency's certified fraud investigator, a detective on the force, has been assigned to the case.

The possible theft of cash was reported to West Carrollton police Feb. 25.

"This type of investigation can be in depth and sometimes time consuming," Wessling said of financial crimes.

Wessling said it's an active, ongoing investigation and the detective hopes to meet with the prosecutor's office by the end of April.

The police report was filed by Jon Lewis, current president of the Wee Pirates program. When reached by phone, Lewis said: "I have no comment."
