What are Ohio’s laws on fireworks? Read this before you set them off

Setting off a firework this week is punishable by a thousand dollar fine and six months in jail.

Only licensed exhibitors can set off commercial fireworks, according to the state fire marshal.

In Ohio, only smoke bombs and sparklers are legal. If other fireworks are bought in the state, like firecrackers, roman candles and bottle rockets, they have to be taken out of the state within 48 hours.

The fire marshal said breaking the law could earn a first-time offender a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by a fine  up to a thousand dollars and six months in jail.

A bill goes to the Ohio senate next that would change the laws to allow all fireworks. Individual cities and townships could decide to ban fireworks.

If fireworks become legal, 2020 would be the first Fourth of July where anyone could legally set them off.
