Wilberforce University marching band performing at Reds Opening Day Parade

CINCINNATI — The marching band for Wilberforce University is performing at today’s Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day Parade.

The Hounds of Sounds is the only college marching band from the Greater Miami Valley that is participating in the parade, according to a university spokesperson.

The band participated in the Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans last month.

The new marching band is in its first full season and consists of 147 members, a spokesperson said.

This year’s Reds Opening Day Parade route began at noon on the Race Street side of Findlay Market in Cincinnati and will move through Race to 5th street, turning east on 5th street and will be at the Taft Theater at the 300 block of E. 5th Street.

The parade signals the start of the 2023 Major League Baseball season.

The Reds host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ballpark this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled at 4:05 p.m.
