The National Park Service’s (NPS) Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) awarded a $750,000 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant, according to Senator Sherrod Brown.

“By working with our National Park Service to honor key sites at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we are preserving the legacy of these institutions,” said Brown. “This investment at Wilberforce University gives an opportunity for future generations of Ohioans to learn our state’s proud history at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”

Dr. Elfred Anthony Pinkard, President of Wilberforce University, said they are “excited about the opportunity to establish an enduring legacy.”

“This grant comes at a particular time of hopefulness as Wilberforce welcomes new presidential leadership,” he said. “With the collective commitment and hard work of the Wilberforce University family, we will continue to build a solid foundation for a future of high performance and sustainability.”

Pinkard is leaving Wilberforce on June 30 to come the first-ever HBCU presidential fellow at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on July 1.
