Several windows were shot out at the Lexington Herald-Leader building in Kentucky, but the publisher vows they will not “be deterred by this senseless act of vandalism,” according to a report from our news partner WCPO-Ch. 9 in Cincinnati.

Windows on the first, second and third floors were damaged by what police characterized as small-caliber gunfire, according to WCPO’s report.
The newspaper quoted its publisher, Rufus M. Friday, who said the incident is concerning because of recent rhetoric directed toward journalists in Kentucky and across the country.
“We’re going to be vigilant and continue to do what we do,” Friday said. “We’re not going to be deterred by this senseless act of vandalism.”
Earlier this month, a journalist was assaulted by a Republican Congressional candidate in Montana and Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin responded to questions of his office ignoring journalists, stating they “make a lot of noise ... like cicadas,” according to WCPO’s report.
