Woman charged in deadly crash that killed veteran in Riverside pleads guilty

DAYTON — A woman charged in a deadly crash that killed a 57-year-old man back in February has pleaded guilty.

Stephanie Dill pleaded guilty Wednesday to one felony count of vehicular homicide in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, according to court documents.

A misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter was dismissed.

As previously reported by News Center 7, Riverside Police and medics responded to a two-vehicle crash on Feb. 18 in the area of State Route 4 and Harshman Road.

Dill was driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz southeast on Harshman Road but did not stop at a red light and hit the driver’s die door of a 2019 Nissan Altima, the crash report said.

The Nissan was turning onto Harshman Road from the northbound exit ramp of State Route 4.

Leonard La Poma, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His online obituary says he served his country as a vehicle mechanic in the U.S. Army for 22 years. He was also a longtime member of the VFW 657 in Riverside.

Dill’s license was suspended at the time of the crash, the report states. Medics transported her to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

Two children were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital for possible injuries.

Online jail records indicate that Dill is on a $100,000 bond in Montgomery County Jail.

Court documents said she will have her license suspended for one to five years when she is sentenced.

Dill’s next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 31.
