ASHTABULA COUNTY — A 61-year-old woman drowned in a pond on her Ashtabula County property while trying to rescue her dog.

Family members had not heard from Carol Beebe since last Friday and went to her home in the 5000 block of Caine Rd to check on her, CBS affiliate WOIO reported.

Family members found Beebe in the pond, according to Ashtabula County Sheriff William Niemi.
Video from the home’s surveillance system showed Beebe’s dog had fallen through the ice on the pond and Beebe then fell through the ice while attempting a rescue, WOIO reported.
Water rescue personnel from Geneva helped recover Beebe’s body.
