Woman ID’d in Hedges Street homicide investigation

DAYTON — A woman who was found dead in a Dayton home Monday has been identified.

Cora Rose Grubb, 26, of Kettering was found in the 200 block of South Hedges Street, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Her cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

Police are investigating Grubb’s death as a homicide at this time.

Officers responded to the South Hedges Street home Monday on a reported suspicious odor.

Later that evening, Erik Michael Evans, 32, was identified as a suspect.
Police found Evans at a Shell station at Free Pike and North Gettysburg Avenue as receiving a tip that he was in the area.

When an officer went to approach him, Evans pulled out a gun and fired.

The officer returned fire and Evans was shot during the exchange.

Evans was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy revealed that Evans died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the coroner’s office.
