Police responded to the 1200 block of Mead around 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.

Sugarcreek Twp. Police Chief Michael Brown said while the investigation is still ongoing they don’t believe a crime was committed.

“Everything at this point indicates that it was an errant round from someone that was utilizing a personal range on their property," Brown said "If that’s the case it’s not really a criminal act.

The victim, Lynette Robinson, 53, was taken to Kettering Medical Center and was in good condition Tuesday morning. She’s a bus driver and special needs aide with Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools.

“We hope she has a very speedy recovery," said Bellbrook Superintendent Doug Cozad.

In a township, like Sugarcreek, it is legal under Ohio law to fire a weapon on your property. However, Brown said it’s important to take precautions if you do have your own gun range.

“While its allowed. Gun safety is very important," Brown said. “The individual that is shooting needs to be aware of what their backdrop is and what’s even beyond that.”

The chief said its recommended to have at least a 6-foot-tall mound to fire into.

“It’s important to understand that just about any caliber can carry a pretty good distance if there’s nothing in between," Brown said. “I’ve been here 7-and-a-half years and we’ve not had anything like this.”

Police hope they can speak with whoever fired the gun to make sure wherever they are shooting is safe.

Around the time of the shooting Sunday afternoon, witnesses in the area said they had heard multiple rounds being fired, Brown said.
