Woman who fell off moving vehicle in Troy identified

TROY — A woman who suffered serious head injuries Monday after falling off a moving vehicle in Troy has been identified.

The woman is Jody Staten, 47, of Troy. She remains at Miami Valley Hospital but her condition has not been released, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Medics and police were requested around 2 p.m. to the intersection of East Race and South Walnut streets after the incident was reported.

Police said the woman was hanging onto the passenger side of an SUV when she fell. The woman was taken by CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

“I saw a woman jump on a car and the car sped off. She fell off and she’s bleeding severely from the head,” said a man in a 911 call.

The vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds, believed to be up to 50 mph, when woman fell off the SUV, according to investigators.

Officers are not sure why the woman was on the outside of the vehicle and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by Troy police.

Officers are looking for a red SUV believed to be involved in the incident.
