Wright State president to suggest eliminating over 100 faculty positions

FAIRBORN — Wright State University President Susan Edwards is expected to recommend to the Board of Trustees that the university eliminate up to 113 faculty positions.

News Center 7 previously reported lay offs from the university were expected to be announced between November and February.

School officials cited declining enrollment, other financial hardships, and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the decision to reduce their faculty workforce.

Just over 12,000 students are enrolled at the university as of last fall, however, enrollment has dropped 30% in the past five years at Wright State. This is not unique to the university as colleges across Ohio have seen drops in enrollment in the past decade.

President Edwards will be presenting her recommendations on February 19.
