Xenia police: Man taken to hospital after his dog bites him, causes hand injury

UPDATE @ 9:12 p.m.: A Greene County Animal Control officer has been called to the house on Harmony Drive in Xenia where a man suffered "a significant" hand injury when his dog bit him, a police officer said.

The man, who was at home with his family at the time, suffered a serious injury to one or more fingers and has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital, the officer said.

The animal control officer likely will quarantine the dog, believed to be a shepherd or shepherd mix, the officer said.

INITIAL REPORT

Police have been dispatched on a report that a man has been injured in a dog attack at a home in the 2400 block of Harmony Drive in Xenia.

The incident was reported about 8:35 p.m. The victim is said to be a man in his 40s.

We’re also hearing there are other dogs in the house. They may be in cages.
