UPDATE @ 7:50 p.m. (April 1):
The four dumpsters Xenia Twp. trustees placed throughout the community to help crack down on illegal dumping has become a problem.
The dumpster on Fairground Road has become a pile of junk.
“It’s a good program, but let’s face it, they need to stay on top of it,” said Mike Harrison, who lives across the street from one of the designated dumpsters. “We noted some traffic coming in from out of the county and businesses from outside the county which was not originally intended for this.”

Harrison says Xenia Twp. crews would show up to clean up the mess, but it wasn’t fast enough because the dumpsters overflowed quickly.
“Last year when they did it, it was better controlled, more monitored, well cared for. It’s like someone dropped the ball,” he said.
After finding out about the overflowing dumpsters, News Center 7's Gabrielle Enright went to try and talk with Xenia Twp. Trustees about the program to find out if there'll be any changes.
Trustee Susan Spradlin said the program is paid for by Xenia Twp. residents, so it’s only supposed to be used by them.

Trustees will be re-evaluating the program, which could include guarded drop-off locations and ID checks.
“I think a lot better monitoring would lead to a better program like that and not let it get out of control for next year,” said Harrison.

“[It’s a] good thing to take advantage of instead of stuff laying around you want to get rid of,” said Leroy Little.
The dumpsters are on Old Hook, Wilberforce-Clifton, Fairground and Brush Row roads.
They fill up quickly, so they’re emptied often.
But nothing everything is accepted.
Acceptable items include branches up to 6 feet, cans, fabric, furniture, glass, household items, lawn clippings, paper, plastic and wood.

The township said the dumpsters will be available until April 1.
