18-year-old Northmont student found dead from gunshot wound in Englewood

ENGLEWOOD — An 18-year-old Northmont and CTC student was found shot and killed early Monday Morning outside an Englewood apartment complex.

Kareena Broski, 18, was a student at Miami Valley Career Technology Center through Northmont High School, said Englewood police Sgt. Mike Lang.

Broski was found shot in the 700 block of Union Boulevard just after midnight, Lang said. She was taken to Grandview Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Broski died of a gunshot wound to the torso, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Her family wants answers about who would do this to an outgoing, fun-loving 18-year-old.

“It’s devastating. Absolutely devastating,” said Eve Coots, Broski’s aunt. “Sweet little girl that had her whole life in front of her. It’s just taken away from us for no good reason at all.”

Northmont High School had grief counselors available for students on Monday. Broski’s family said she was set to graduate from the CTC’s cosmetology program this spring.

“We don’t have any words. There’s nothing anyone can do except to try and at least get the person responsible for this to be put away,” Coots said.

Police are confident Broski was shot at another location and moved to the apartment complex, where Coots said she lived with her mother and other family.

Englewood police also believe Broski knew her killer, and police are working to trace Broski’s movements Sunday night prior to her death.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Englewood police at 937-836-1194 or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP (7867).
