Yellow Springs High School staff member resigns after investigation into use of ‘offensive language’

YELLOW SPRINGS — A staff member at Yellow Springs High School has resigned after an investigation into an alleged inappropriate comment.

On Monday, a social media post accused a teacher at the high school of using a derogatory term that was racial in nature during class.

News Center 7 reached out to Yellow Springs Superintendent, Terri Holden on Monday afternoon regarding the claim. On Tuesday, a district spokesperson confirmed to News Center 7 that the administration received a complaint late last week “alleging that a staff member at the high school used hurtful and offensive language.”

The administration immediately launched an investigation into the claim and place the staff member on administrative leave. The employee later resigned from their position, according to the district.

The district said they would not comment on the details of the specific allegation or release the name of the employee as they are personnel matters.

“However, we believe it appropriate to reiterate our commitment to maintaining a culture and climate where students, staff, and other visitors to our schools can be free from harmful or offensive words or actions. We apologize to those who were hurt or offended, and we will continue to work diligently to create an inclusive, equitable, and safe learning environment for all,” the statement for the district read.

On Monday, social media posts showed students participating in a reported walkout in response to the incident.
