YELLOW SPRINGS — One of the first communities in our area to implement mask wearing is now making changes due to the decrease in COVID-19 cases.
Masks are no longer required in Yellow Springs Public Schools.
News Center 7 confirmed with superintendent Terri Holden Wednesday morning that mask wearing will become optional beginning this morning.

She sent a letter to district families that announced mask wearing by students and staff was no longer required in school, at school events or on district transportation.
She cited a decrease in cases of COVID-19. This comes the same day the Village of Yellow Springs announced changes to it’s mask mandate indoors in its business area.

According to a post on the village Facebook, “Masking within local businesses is now at the sole discretion of business owners, and the Village of Yellow Springs, and YSPD will work to support local business owners in their decisions.”
“Yellow Springs Peace Officers will continue to mask up in doors, and while on call for service,” the post continued.
In April of 2020, the Village of Yellow Springs put up electronic signs discouraging visitors because of COVID-19.
According to a memo from a Yellow Springs Public Schools Board of Education meeting, Yellow Springs students spent more than 150 days learning remotely during the pandemic.
Nearly two years after the start of the pandemic a lot of things have changed in the village.
But both village and school leaders say they’ll continue to closely watch COVID case numbers and consult with local and state health officials.
