“You are Loved;” Local nonprofit shows support for LGBTQ community with billboards

DAYTON — Across the state, billboards have popped up showing support for the Transgender community.

They display messages like “You Are Loved”, “Trans Kids Belong” and “Be Careful Who You Hate, It Could Be Someone You Love”.

The billboards were put up by Dayton non-profit organization Have a Gay Day.

Volunteer Organizer Betina Baessler said she knows the messages may be controversial, but believes through education anyone can grow.

“I’m really excited to get messages of love and support out to these kids,” Baessler said.

The signs also mean so much to her for another reason.

Baessler’s son is transgender, so she said she understands the struggle many trans kids go through.

The organization raised $4000 for the billboards, Baessler said.

Have a Gay Day currently have 14 billboards across the country, but they plan to have 30 in the next few days.
