News Center 7′s Mike Campbell spoke with the mother of the 33-year-old victim who was shot and killed on a sidewalk on Salem Avenue.

Police have been looking for a killer since July 28.

That’s when Morrell Fontenot was shot on Salem Ave, right in front of an Arby’s around 12:30 a.m.

“I said you got to be kidding me, he was like ‘yeah, they found out, I think they found out who did it,’” Stephanie Fontenot, Morrell’s mother said.

Stephanie said her brother gave her a heads-up that police believe they’ve identified the man who killed her son.

“My son, if you wanted anything, if you needed something, he would have done it,” Stephanie said.

She said she could feel that something was wrong that night and walked from her home to Salem Avenue.

“When my son had his problems I always found him. I never thought this would be my last time finding him,” Stephanie said.

After months, police gathered enough evidence to charge 42-year-old David Brown.

Police told Stephanie they believe that Brown robbed her son, even going through his pocket after Morrell was shot.

Stephanie had a message for her son’s alleged killer.

“You are a coward, you are a clown and you need to just turn yourself in. You need to just go ahead and do what you are supposed to do,” she said.

Anyone who knows Brown’s location is asked to not approach him and call police at 937-333-COPS or Crime Stoppers at (937) 222-7867.
