Police: No evidence of kidnapping attempt at West Carrollton soccer fields

WEST CARROLLTON — UPDATE @ 1:50 p.m.: 

West Carrollton police said no witnesses have been found that back-up the claim of an attempted child abduction at a park Tuesday night.

“Our investigation has not developed any witnesses that corroborate evidence of a kidnapping at this time,” Deputy Chief David Wessling said.

Wessling said their investigation continues into the attempted abduction report and ask anyone with information that could lead to identification of a suspect to contact the West Carrollton Police Department at 937-859-3688.

Tuesday night, a Facebook post from the West Carrollton Soccer Association claimed a man attempted to kidnap a boy before fleeing the area near Elm Street.

Wednesday, using the soccer association’s post, the Kettering Youth Football and Cheer Organization said they had a similar incident reported at the football weigh-in Aug. 11 at Miamisburg Middle School.

This news outlet continues to work to get more details on the reported Aug. 11 incident.

FIRST REPORT

Two local youth sports organizations have reported separate incidents of attempted child abductions in August, according to social media posts. Police in West Carrollton said an investigation is underway after one of the incidents was reported Tuesday night.

A Facebook post by the West Carrollton Soccer Association, posted around 10 p.m. Tuesday, stated a man attempted to take a boy from the fields near Elm Street.

“The boy is okay, but the man got away,” the soccer association said in the post. “The police were notified and we are working with them along with the parents of the boy.”

West Carrollton police confirmed officers took a report on the incident, but were unable to release any specific details Wednesday morning.

Another Facebook post from the Kettering Youth Football and Cheer Organization, said a similar incident happened during their weigh-in event Aug. 11 at Miamisburg Middle School.

“We are not sharing this info to scare or induce panic but to simply inform all the parents of how close these things can happen and are happening,” the football association said in the post.
