Zoning commission recommends approval of Southview Medical Center expansion

UPDATE @ 9:32 p.m.: The request for the final stage of planned development of the Southview Medical Center expansion was recommended Tuesday night by the Washington Twp. Zoning Commission to the township board of trustees, township Development Director Ryan Lee said.

The trustees will hear the recommendation when they meet again June 3.

INITIAL REPORT

A multi-phase expansion of Southview Medical Center, which would include new surgery rooms and future space for maternity patient rooms, will be apart of a public hearing at the Washington Twp. Zoning Commission meeting Tuesday night.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Blair Meeting Room of the Washington Twp. Government Center, 8200 McEwen Road.

According to township records, phase one, if approved, would begin sometime this year.  Phase one would include a 4,893 square-foot addition, which would house two new operating rooms.

The phase one addition would be located near to the emergency department ambulance canopy entrance and turn around area. Phase one would cost around $8 million.

“This latest expansion allows us to address the evolving surgical field and to give surgeons the flexibility they need in performing specialized and minimally invasive procedures,” said Richard Manchur, president of Southview Medical Center.

Phase two of the expansion would include a two-story 4,065 square-foot addition to the east of the phase one addition.  Phase two would include space for future high-risk maternity patient bedrooms and existing space would be renovated for a new central sterile facility that is needed for expanded operating rooms, public records show.

Phase two of the expansion would tentatively begin for mid to late 2020, documents show.

Kettering Health Network said plans have not been finalized on whether to proceed with the second phase of the proposal.
