Man accused of accidentally shooting 10-year-old in Riverside charged

RIVERSIDE — A Riverside man accused of accidentally shooting a 10-year-old boy over the weekend has been charged.

Mark Joseph Ames, 31, is facing two counts of felonious assault, according to Montgomery County Municipal Court Eastern Division records.

Riverside police responded to the shooting in the 400 block of Crystal Drive at 9:38 p.m. on Saturday, a spokesperson for Riverside police said.

When officers arrived, they found a 10-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound, the spokesperson continued. A medics transported him to an area hospital for further treatment.

A preliminary investigation found that Ames accidentally fired the gun while under the influence of alcohol, the spokesperson said.

Riverside Police led the investigation into the shooting.
