RIVERSIDE, Ohio — A Riverside dad, struggling to make ends meet, was afraid he wouldn’t be able to give his children are Christmas this year – that is until he got a surprise visit.
News Center 7′s Kayla Courvell explains how a woman and her son made sure the man’s kids have an unforgettable Christmas.
Billy Kraft has had a rough year financially. He’s a single parent, dealing with the pandemic and his own personal loss.
“There’s only like four presents under the tree,” Billy said. “My dad just passed away two months ago, so that’s making it hard this year.”

For Kraft’s three kids, he was convinced Christmas may not happen this year. He said he told his kids that they may have to wait until he gets his tax return in 2021 to have a proper Christmas.
However, a stranger visited him at work on Saturday night.
“She pointed and said, ‘I want to speak to him. I want to speak to Billy.’ And I don’t even know who she is,” Kraft said. “I asked how I could help her, and she said follow me.”
Kraft, who works with cars, said he followed the woman outside to her car, where he thought she would ask him to take a look at it.
“She had opened her tailgate of her vehicle,” Kraft said. “I’m thinking she has a part that needed returned to the store and it was a few gifts.”
“Her and her son just said, ‘Merry Christmas,’” Kraft added.
He said he was so shocked by the woman’s gesture, that he never got her name. “I’m just moved by it,” Kraft said.
The woman and her son may just be Christmas elves who had the magic of recognizing when someone needs a little help. Because with the gifts, was a note for Kraft that read, ‘My son and I want to do something special for a single parent because I know how hard it can be, but you do a wonderful job, Keep the work up.’
While Kraft said he tries to teach his kids that Christmas is about so much more than gifts, “I try to tell them and explain to them that it’s not about what you get,” Kraft said. “It’s so much more than that.”
He’s thankful this mystery woman and her son, who may have been sent straight from the North Pole, were able to make the Kraft’s Christmas, a whole lo more merrier.
