OCALA, Fla. — A 2-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she was shot by a sibling in Florida, police said.
The family said the shooting was an accident, but Ocala police will "still go through all the proper procedures of investigating this, as we would any other shooting," police spokeswoman Angie Scroble said.
Around 12:45 p.m. Friday, officers said they responded to a shooting call. Upon arrival, police discovered a 2-year-old with a gunshot wound, officers said.
According to a witness statement, it is believed to be an accidental discharge by a juvenile sibling, police said.
Police said the toddler is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
“They’re of course keeping an eye on her. She is only 2 years old,” Scroble said. “It appears at this time that the injury is not life-threatening.”
Police are also still investigating how the sibling had a gun.
