A concerned family member told police that the victim did not show up for a holiday get-together and they could not get in touch with her, both outlets reported.
The officer found the woman dead on her front porch, according to WCMH-8.
She reportedly suffered traumatic injuries to the lower parts of her body.
WCMH-8 reported that police found two large pigs near the victims’ home.
Police believe the pigs, which belong to a neighbor, may have contributed to the victim’s injuries, but it is unclear what led up to these injuries.
Pataskala Police Chief Bruce Brooks told The Dispatch that this case is a “horrible, horrible situation.”
Additional information was not immediately available, as this case is still under investigation.
The Licking County Coroner’s Office told WCMH-8 that the victim did not die from the pigs eating her, but did not specify how the animals were connected to her death.
It is unclear what will happen to the pigs or if their owner will be criminally charged.
Brooks told The Dispatch that there is a clear process in Ohio for when dogs kill someone, but there aren’t any laws about livestock.
“If it was a pit bull or a Rottweiler, or name any of the other 15 dogs that are deemed semi aggressive, then we would know the answer right away,” Brooks told The Dispatch. “But being farm animals, it’s just not something we’ve ever dealt with here.”
