Deputies identify 2 killed in Darke County motorcycle crash

JACKSON TWP., Darke County — A man and woman from Union City, Indiana were killed following a crash between their motorcycle and a pickup truck in Darke County Saturday afternoon, according to deputies.

The crash was reported at the intersection of Coletown-Lightsville Road and state Route 47 around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Douglas Shaneyfelt, 55, and Hope Shaneyfelt, 48, both occupants of a motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Levi Livingston, 22, of New Weston, was not injured in the crash, investigators said.

A preliminary investigation found Livingston was traveling east on state Route 47 and attempted to turn into the northbound lanes of Coletown-Lightsville Road. While making the turn, Livingston crashed into the motorcycle, driven by Douglas Shaneyfelt, that was traveling west on Coletown-Lightsville Road.

Neither of the Shaneyfelts were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, deputies said.
