Beavercreek PD seeks passage of levy on Election Day

Election Day is next week, and one local community is asking voters to pass a levy to help its police department.

This is the first time a police levy has been on the ballot in Beavercreek since 2014.

Beavercreek city council put this levy on the November ballot after voters in that part of Greene County rejected an income tax proposal in May.

Beavercreek Police moved into their current building 25 years ago and the department says now they’ve outgrown their home.

Police Chief Jeff Fiorita has previously told News Center 7 their biggest concerns are: the building’s location, security at the building and the storage space.

The building itself is 60 years old.

If the levy passes, city council hopes to use the money to hire more officers and help bankroll construction for a new police facility.

Passage would also mean higher property taxes for people who live in Beavercreek. If the levy passes, it would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an extra $87.50 in property taxes each year, starting in January 2023.
