Preschool teachers not included in Phase 1B

BEAVERCREEK — School districts will begin vaccinating teachers on Feb. 1, but Preschool teachers have been left out of the group designated by the Ohio Department of Health.

Despite being left out of the next vaccination group, Beavercreek Preschool Principal Kristine Mongague said the district plans to include them.

“It’s my understanding that the Greene County Public Health has prioritized teachers in such a way so that if teachers and staff work with students without masks, such as students with special needs, they will be higher on that prioritization list,” Mongague said.

Mongague said it was “imperative” for preschool teachers to be vaccinated.

“Our students have severe special needs,” Mongague said. “They’re not required to wear masks during the school day and that puts our employees at risk along with all the other students.”

Because of that risk, preschool teachers across the Beavercreek School District will be some of the first offered the vaccine. They will be prioritized with the group that works with students who do not wear masks, according to Mongague.
