Woman killed during Ohio Ironman Triathlon after being struck on bicycle

A 44-year-old cyclist who was participating in the Ohio Ironman Triathlon died Sunday after being struck by a semi-truck on U.S. 23 near Troutman Road, according to the Delaware Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Kristen J. Oswald, 44, of Royersford, PA was riding her bicycle in the right northbound lane of U.S. 23 around 9 a.m. while participating in the event when she traveled outside the safety zone and was struck in the left lane by a 2018 Freightliner commercial tractor trailer, driven by Claude Tremblay, 55, of Sarnia, Ontario.

A safety zone was established for people participating in the event, and a reduced speed zone was in place for motorists traveling on U.S. 23.

Oswald, who was wearing a helmet, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash that left the northbound lanes of U.S. 23 closed for three hours.

OSP was assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County EMS, and Tri Township Fire and EMS.
