1 dead after house explodes near Cleveland

CLEVELAND — One person has died after a house exploded outside Cleveland Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to reports of an explosion in Wickliffe shortly before 11 a.m., according to CBS affiliate WOIO.

When crews arrived they found the garage of the home on fire after what appeared to be a “fairly significant explosion,” according to Wickliffe Fire Chief Jim Powers.

A man died in the fire, according to Powers.

The garage, back of the house and a neighboring house were all damaged in the explosion.

Powers said fire crews are still investigating the cause of the explosion but it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
