Lawmakers in the Ohio Senate want to increase the speed limit 55 to 60 m.p.h. with the passage of H.B. 23.
The plan would also give the Ohio Department of Transportation authority to raise the speed on two-lane state routes to 65 m.p.h.
Supporters say it will cut down on the number of speeding tickets.
Critics point to a 2021 study by AAA.
It said raising the speed five miles per hour increases the risk of severe injury death by 20%.
Lawmakers will hear the plan later this week.
