Woman killed in Columbus-area workplace shooting; Suspect dead after possible electrocution

GROVEPORT — UPDATE @ 10:15 a.m.:

Two people, a woman and a man, are dead after a shooting at a Columbus-area workplace facility Monday morning, according a report from our news partners at WBNS-TV in Columbus.

The shooting was reported at the SK Food Group facility in Groveport, which is south of Columbus, around 5:20 a.m. Monday.

One person, only identified as a woman, was shot and taken to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries, police told the news station. The shooter, only identified as a man, shot the woman inside the building and later ran from the scene.

The suspect later died from an apparent electrocution about a fourth of a mile away from the facility, according to police. Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death were still being investigated. However, police said it appears the shooter attempted to shoot himself but there was some sort of failure on his part of by the weapon, police told the station.

Both the woman and the man were temporary employees at the facility and police are investigating the incident as a “domestic violence situation.”

The shooting prompted a large police response at the facility including SWAT units that evacuated and searched the building for additional victims or threats, the station reports.

Employees of the facility were later allowed to return inside to retrieve their belongings.

FIRST REPORT

One person has been taken to a hospital after a shooting at a central Ohio business in Groveport, our news partner 10TV in Columbus is reporting.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls from SK Food Group at around 5:20 a.m. and said at least one person was shot at that location, according to 10TV.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus in critical condition, 10TV reports.

Employees at the business have been evacuated from the facility and SWAT officers have been actively searching the building to make sure there is no threat, according to 10TV.
