Dr. Curtis Wright, Richmond Community Schools superintendent, said the center has hosted many an athletic or community event and even funerals in the last 30-plus years.
“It has served, rightfully so, as our community’s home base,” Wright told Bedell.
“Especially with such events as it will be utilized for next Monday. And we, indeed, are just humbled and honored to be able to do anything we can as Richmond Community Schools to support those in law enforcement and first responders that have been so supportive of us for many years.”
Superintendent Wright, who leads the school district where he grew up, said Richmond Community Schools will be closed Monday for an e-learning day to accommodate Officer Burton’s homegoing, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
