Severe storms raced across central Indiana Sunday afternoon.
In Johnson County, there were multiple reports of tornadoes.
A tornado hit parts of the northern county, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Duane Burgess said Sunday the damage covered a significant area where neighborhoods and homes were destroyed. He is urging everyone in Johnson County to stay out of the area while emergency workers do their jobs because of the number of powerlines down.
The American Red Cross has also set up shelters.
Officials warn some areas should be prepared to go more than 48 hours without power.
The National Weather Service will determine the path and strength of the tornado or tornadoes that hit Johnson County.
