‘We’re deeply honored;’ UC Medical staff recognized for on-field support of Damar Hamlin

CINCINNATI — Healthcare providers from University of Cincinnati Medical Center who were part of the on-field response in support of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin were recognized in a pre-game ceremony prior to the Bengals home game against the Ravens at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

“On behalf of our extensive multi-disciplinary medical care teams, we’re deeply honored to be recognized,” said Rob Wiehe, EVP/COO, UC Health & Chief Administrative Officer, University of Cincinnati Medical Center. “More importantly, we’re happy that Damar is making continued progress in his recovery.”

Hamlin has been at UC Medical Center since his collapse Monday. Doctors say he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field and needed both CPR and defibrillation by team doctors.

UC Medical Center is the region’s only adult Level 1 trauma center and plays a critical part of the NFL Emergency Action Plan at Bengals home NFL game in Cincinnati, Wiehe said.

The Bills said Saturday Hamlin is making continued progress in his recovery but remains in critical condition, in a post on the team’s social media account.

Hamlin posted several times on his Twitter account Sunday throughout the Bills game against the Patriots cheering his team as they won, 35-23.

He also released a statement after the game encouraging people to purchase t-shirts and the proceeds will benefit first responders.

“We all won. I want to give back an ounce of the love y’all showed me,” he said. “Proceeds of this shirt will go to first-responders and the UC Trauma Center. Go get yours!”
