UPDATE @ 2:30 PM: University of Dayton Public Safety is conducting a criminal investigation following the arrest of a person suspected of posting a threat to students and staff on social media, according to a campus-wide alert sent from University officials.
Once Public Safety was made aware of the threatening post, they began investigating the credibility of the threat and contacted partner law enforcement agencies for assistance, University officials said.

“The investigation led to the person believed to be responsible for the message being taken into custody a short time later,” University officials said in the alert.
Classes were not canceled and normal activities on campus can continue, the spokesperson said.
“The safety of our community is our first priority,” the spokesperson said in the alert sent to students and staff, “and our university law enforcement officers and our partner agencies take these threats seriously and investigate them immediately and thoroughly.”

UPDATE @ 12:50 PM: A person is in custody following a threat to the University of Dayton campus, according to a campus-wide alert sent to students and staff by UD Public Safety.
Public Safety personnel sent the update around 12:45 p.m. on Monday stating that the person suspected of sending the threat to campus this morning is in custody.
The update Public Safety shared with campus:
“UPDATE: University of Dayton Public Safety personnel have a person in custody who is believed to be the source of the social media message discovered this morning. As always if you see any activity you find suspicious, please call UD Public Safety at 937-229-2121 or 911,” University of Dayton Public Safety said in a campus-wide alert.

INITIAL REPORT: An active investigation is underway on the campus of University of Dayton while police investigate a threat posted to social media, according to a campus-wide alert.
The campus wide alert was sent around noon, notifying campus members of a threat investigation at the school.
Students have indicated to News Center 7 the threat is to a specific building at a specific time. It is unknown if the messaging shared with News Center 7 by students is the threat that UD Public Safety are investigating.
University of Dayton Public Safety shared this alert with students:
“University of Dayton Public Safety personnel discovered a potential threat to campus posted on social media today. They are taking appropriate measures to investigate, including reaching out to other law enforcement partners for assistance. If you see any activity you find suspicious, please call UD Public Safety at 937-229-2121 or 911.”
